This alludes to the unique the hardness of this mineral.

The quality, and thus the value of a cut diamond, is determined by the principle of 4C Carat (weight), Color (color), Clarity (purity), and Cut. In the last 55 years, diamond prices have increased more than 10 times, and the average annual growth rate is about 15%. Even in the 1960s, the wholesale prices of diamonds (transparent, perfectly clean, round cut) were at the level of $ 2700 per carat and in 2015 it was $ 29,000.

Diamonds are made of one element – carbon atoms. They formed about 150 kilometers underground where, under the influence of very high temperatures and very high pressure, the carbon atoms were bound in a unique way into perfectly geometric cubes, which resulted in a beautiful and rare crystal structure. Eventually, they were brought to the surface of the Earth by deep volcanic eruptions.

The ancient Romans and Greeks believed that diamonds were the tears of the gods or splinters of stars falling from the sky. The Romans believed that Cupid’s arrows were ended with diamond points. Many ancient cultures believed that diamonds gave the wearer of these precious stones strength and courage during battle, and some kings wore diamonds on their armor during combat.

The beautiful Eureka diamond was first discovered in South Africa by a 15-year-old boy named Erasmus Stephanus in 1867. This 21.25 carat diamond as raw material was found near Hopetown on the Orange River. Today, this cut and polished beautiful diamond weighs only 10.73 carats. This is because the diamond loses up to 50% of its weight during the cutting and polishing process.
